Lunch & Learn - Bike Week - Cycling Safety Workshop

A cycling safety message from Stephen Burns, Traffic Sergeant, Toronto Police Service 14 Division:   Cycling is an efficient and environmentally friendly method of transportation that continues to grow in popularity. However, far too many cyclists continue to ride in an aggressive and unsafe manner that poses a danger not only to themselves, but to all road users. In the past four years 7 cyclists have been killed on our city streets and over 1,200 riders yearly are injured as the result of a collision.

Cycling Safety Workshop
Tuesday May 22 at 12 noon to 1:00pm
The Toronto Carpet Factory Resource Centre
Suite 101, 67 Mowat Avenue

Smart Commute and the LVBIA invite you to learn how to ride more safely, receive a bike light, and enter a draw to win a bike repair kit at this one-hour workshop focused on cycling safety.  Light lunch will be provided.

Space is limited.  Please RSVP your attendance to Christine@lvbia.com

Mygazines Rebrands to Uberflip

Mygazines rebrands to Uberflip, with new services and pricing

Liberty Village's Mygazines has officially rebranded itself as Uberflip. The name change came along with a redesigned service and pricing structure for their digital publishing software.  Uberflip is a more universal name reflecting that their service can benefit any company, not just magazines.

Uberflip offers you the easiest way to supercharge your PDFs!  Uberflip provides a web based software platform that converts a PDF into an interactive Flipbook experience, and adds the option to embed links, integrate with social media and add videos, and then be able to analyze readership.  Their application enables customers to meet all distribution, security, monetizing, and tracking requirements for their content.

Uberflup clients include marketers, publishers, professionals, educators and corporations interested in converting traditional print versions of magazines, flyers, catalogs, brochures, corporate documents, textbooks, and newspapers into branded digital editions.

Visit their website to watch a Webinar - there's a new one every month, and to try Uberflip PDF for free.

Bogus Email Survey to BIA Members

Bogus email survey to BIA members – ignore recent requests – but REAL LVBIA survey in late spring

In February some of you received an email with the subject line “Liberty Village BIA Survey”, asking you to complete a 10 question survey through survey monkey.  A later email sent you to a site to view the survey results.

As many of you suspected, this was not an official survey from the LVBIA or TABIA (Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas), and you were wise to ignore it.  We have since learned this was sent out by a group called Toronto Business Improvement Area (TBA) who “specialize in marketing to BIAs in the GTA”.

Please continue to junk these bogus emails. But please note that the LVBIA will be issuing a REAL survey in the late spring, to assess how Liberty Villagers travel between home and work.  This is a follow up to our 2009 commuter survey.  For our REAL survey you will receive a legitimate notice from us through this e-newsletter.  We hope you will definitely take the time to complete our REAL survey – watch here for more details.

Please read the letter from TABIA (Toronto Association of BIAs) the Voice of Toronto's 72 BIAs, representing over 30,000 Businesses, below.

To rent a bike locker, please download the rental agreement and send the completed form to bikehere@lvbia.com. Someone will contact you to arrange payment and key pick up details.

Three clusters of secure bike lockers are conveniently located in the two Green P parking lots of Liberty Village.  Each cluster consists of 5 lockers.  The lockers can be rented through the Liberty Village BIA at a cost of $10. per month, plus a one-time payable security deposit of $20.

The lockers offer protection from theft, vandalism and inclement weather, beyond what would be provided by conventional bicycle racks. The lockers provide an alternative storage solution for those Liberty Village cyclists that haul their bikes into their offices for safe storage.  These safe and secure lockers are the first for Liberty Village. We hope you can join us to appreciate these functional yet artistic additions to the creative Liberty Village public space. Ride your bike!

For a map of the bike locker and bike rack locations, please download the attached BikeHere! Map.
